The “curse”

I am not sure just how to formulate the curse. It needs to be curable to an extent, but you can be overtaken by it. Maybe like cancer, but it doesn’t kill you, it changes you to make you lose the ability to control your actions or mental stability. You need to be able to override it temporarily. Or maybe I should make it like an addiction. It gives you strength but makes you reliant on it, and eventually, you require so much that you can’t go without it.

I want this to be an intriguing yet disturbing realization of what happens when you are supposed to avoid something, and you don’t. It starts out as it is not as bad as everyone thinks, and grows to be worse than everyone thinks, but I will not let it keep me from my duty. I was initially thinking more cancerous, but that is hard to blame on anything other than the fact that the HALO is supposed to protect you from it. Similar to radiation. Maybe the curse gives off a type of “radiation” once you are affected enough.

It affects you if you don’t have your HALO on or if it is broken. The effects are shown as explosive power that makes you unstoppable against the enemy. The downside is that it continues to zap your energy to make you that explosive. Over time, you require more curse to feel just as much explosiveness. Without the antidote, the curse begins to settle in you and feed off of you. To fuel it, you need a lot of food and humans, or forsvars are the best source of long-lasting energy that staves off the curse.

If you don’t provide the curse with a food source, it will consume you. As you are consumed, the curse will make sure that you can continue moving and feeding it. However, eventually, you will either be consumed to the point that you are useless, or if the curse has complete control of your brain, then you are likely to lose your consciousness to the curse.

The Forsvar counsel has a strict ruling that if you become infected with the curse, you will be isolated forever, and any Forsvar can kill you. These rulings are typically given after a long battle when many forsvars have been affected and there is not enough antidote, or their HALOs have become damaged, and the curse has settled.
